“It’s a very symbolic project”says Alain Leboeuf, president of the Vendée Departmental Council, during the inauguration of the work on the footbridge this Thursday, October 3, 2024

After an architectural study, the town of L’Aiguillon-la-Presqu’île realized that the footbridge, which connects L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer and Faute-sur-Mer, was in bad condition.

After “long exchanges and discussions”, the decision was made to refurbish this footbridge.

“Even if many were attached to history, above all there is safety,” assures Alain Leboeuf, “we could not make residents and tourists take risks.”

“A symbol”

“This new bridge will be a symbol, we respect history, it will be an artery that will run through the new town,” promises Laurent Huger, mayor of L’Aiguillon-la-Presqu’île.

“It was the link between two sister communes which today form one,” says Laurent Huger.

“Many people have memories on this footbridge, whether it be meetings, first kisses or walks.”

A project that runs until summer 2025

“We started construction at the end of the 2024 season so that everything is ready for next season,” announces Alain Leboeuf.

Deconstruction of the bridge began in September 2024 and will continue until the end of the year. Construction of the new footbridge will then begin.

Work estimated at 3.7 million euros hors taxes.

With a length of 140 meters and a weight of around 116 tonnes for the framework, this new footbridge will offer a particularity.

The width of the building is 4 meters, except halfway, where the fishermen used to stretch their lines. At this location, the footbridge will be expanded to reach 7.5 meters large-scale and allow fishing enthusiasts to settle in without hindering traffic.
