While it was released in 2017, this very good game becomes even better on Xbox. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch and PS4 players won’t have the chance to enjoy these additions.
Cuphead deserves an update! Available since September 29, MDHR studio has concocted a nice surprise for fans with the “Xbox anniversary update”. It will unfortunately be exclusive to the PC and Xbox versions and will therefore not be available on Nintendo Switch and PS4. This new feature will reveal to players behind the scenes of the title as detailed by Chad Moldenhauer, co-director of Studio MDHR : “Original sketches, concept art, painting or model process footage, unused pieces of music, orchestra session footage, etc.”. He then explains the reason for this update:
Knowing we wanted to thank the Xbox community who showed us love from day one, we really thought about what kinds of things we would want to see as Cuphead fans.
He adds that their “aim was to make this update a true behind-the-scenes look at what brought the game to life, through all stages of development.” As for the choice of platform, it is linked to the fact that their “adventure with Cuphead really began with the release on Xbox”.

A success for Cuphead
While it was announced in 2013, Cuphead saw the light of day four years later in 2017. For those who don’t know, it’s a 2D action game in which the player plays Cuphead or Mugman. Straight out of the 1930s cartoon aesthetic, you have to traverse different worlds while fighting various enemies. On the sales side, the title is a real success, In particular, it sold more than a million copies during the first two weeks of its release. As of 2020, when the project was released on PS4, it had accumulated a total of 6 million sales. A DLC has also been released. It’s called Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course and offers new levels. Its sales followed those of the initial game with a million sales in less than two weeks.
On the ratings side, Cuphead receives an excellent 86/100 on Metacritic. The JV editorial team gave it a 17/10. As a reminder, the title is available on PS4, PC, Mac, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
