Released in November 2020, the new PS5 is still nowhere to be found. There’s already only the PS5 Digital Edition left, with the Standard version now out of stock. As part of a Box + PS5 offer, however, you will benefit from a reduced price on the version without the Blu-Ray player (241 euros).
It must be recognized that SFR is not the most obvious merchant when it comes to selling PS5s. Only, the big players like Amazon, Cdiscount or Micromania do not have stock of the Japanese console. It is therefore a good alternative to get your hands on the new product, knowing that it sells for 2 to 3 times more expensive on second-hand sites.
As many titles begin to release on the PS5, it’s extremely frustrating not being able to enjoy them. This small stock of PS5s, which we estimate at a few hundred units, won’t last long online. Since this Sunday morning, many have commented on social networks to have gotten their hands on this small stock of the console.
A PS5 in exchange for an internet box
SFR is first and foremost a telecom operator that sells mobile plans and box internet. If he managed to obtain a small stock of PS5, he nevertheless intends to take advantage of his core business. It is for this reason that the PS5 will only be offered to customers on the condition that they subscribe to a box at home. That said, there are several reasons why this combo is relevant.
First of all, you obviously need to have a very good internet connection to play the PS5. By opting for this SFR formula, you have access to the most powerful fiber of the operator. This ensures the best gaming experience possible. You won’t be bothered by slowdowns or display issues.
Then, we can be reassured by the fact that the value for money of the fiber is correct. In this case, you receive fiber from SFR (subject to having checked your eligibility beforehand) with a speed of 1 Gb/s for downloading and 500 Mb/s for uploading. The ISP adds in this triple-play offer all unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles and 200 TV channels. This formula is sold at 34 euros per month (then 53 euros following one year), which is barely more expensive than the default offer.
In return for this subscription, you can take advantage of this stock of PS5, one unit of which will be delivered to your home within a few days of ordering. Because you commit to 24 months with the box, you also receive an advantageous price on the console in return: the PS5 Digital Edition version is just 241 euros in total (instead of 399). You therefore save 150 euros which you can pass on to the cost of the fibre.
For those who want to take out as little money as possible immediately, SFR is doing a favor. You can tune your ps5 in installments: 49 euros initially, then 8 euros per month for 24 months. In the end, it will also cost you 241 euros (as if you had paid it all at once) but the cost passes more easily. It’s a good solution to take the pill over the next two years.
The PS5 Digital Edition is excellent
In terms of performance, the PS5 Standard and the PS5 Digital Edition are strictly the same. Also in terms of design. The only difference is the lack of a Blu-Ray drive. This means that in the Digital Edition version, you will not be able to insert the game discs. You will have to buy them from the PlayStation Store.
This also means that you cannot resell the games. But it is also for this reason that the PS5 Digital Edition is 100 euros cheaper than the Standard version. In the end, you have access to the entire catalog of video games on the PlayStation Store and therefore you can also take them everywhere. It’s a real comfort and it’s the only console still available.
Of course, SFR asks you to change provider for your internet connection. Without it, you won’t be able to enjoy the PS5. That said, he is ready to finance you also 100 euros in termination fees for a completely free transition. And if ever you don’t like the PS5 Digital Edition, you can always resell it on a second-hand site at 2 or 3 times the price. Either way, you’ll be a winner.
The only challenge will be getting your hands on that stock PS5. Remember that only one offer can be taken out per household, which naturally limits the number of new customers.
