For several months, the SVOD market has been raising its prices. In fact, in turn, the different streaming video platforms are increasing their prices. After Netflix which has just revised its copy, it is the turn of Disney + to change its price list.

The bad news was expected. Because we already announced it to you in August when we learned that the entertainment giant was going to profoundly change its range of subscriptions. This change in Disney+ offers is now effective this morning.

It’s the end of the single subscription to Disney+

Indeed, the single subscription to Disney+ (with up to four screens simultaneously and 4K UHD) and its price of €8.99/month has disappeared. And it is replaced by three formulas which closely resemble those offered by Netflix. From now on, to subscribe to Disney+, you have the choice between three offers:

the Standard plan with , at the price of €5.99/month with resolution up to 1080p Full HD, 2 simultaneous screens, 5.1 surround sound on compatible content. It is the low-cost version.the Standard plan at the price of €8.99/month (or €89.90/year) with resolution up to 1080p Full HD, 2 simultaneous screens, downloads for offline playback on up to 10 devices and 5.1 surround sound on compatible content. Without . This is the formula for have even more comfort.the Premium plan at the price of €11.99/month (or €119.90/year) with resolution up to 4K Ultra HD and HDR, 4 simultaneous screens, downloads for offline playback on up to 10 devices and Dolby Atmos sound on compatible content. Without . It is the ideal subscription for the whole family to enjoy the Disney+ subscription.

Good to know: for current Disney+ subscribers, they will automatically switch to the Premium offer from December 6, 2023. To continue paying €8.99/month, you will therefore have to think regarding downgrading the Standard subscription before this period. Or agree to pay three euros more to continue to benefit from the same advantages.

And soon the end of account sharing on Disney+!

Clearly, to redress the situation, Disney+ has decided to do like Netflix. As we also announced to you at the beginning of the month, account sharing on Disney+ will soon end.

In fact, the Disney+ platform has informed its Canadian customers that as of today, identifiers and access codes can only be used by members of the same household. In a letter sent to subscribers, Disney+ explains soberly: “We are implementing restrictions on your ability to share your account or connection credentials outside your household.” Additionally, a new “Account Sharing” section has appeared in the SVoD service settings.

Bob Iger, once once more the new strong man of Disney+, indicates that the platform has the “technical capacity to monitor connections”. On the other hand, Disney+ has not yet specified how it intends to restrict account sharing. Perhaps it plans to do like Netflix by monitoring users’ IP addresses.

For the moment, this measure is experienced in Canada and we do not know which countries will be affected next, or when. But it is a safe bet that it will be extended to other countries, including France, in 2024.

What we know, however, is that Disney is counting a lot on the end of account sharing and this change in range for gain subscribers and stop losing money. Bob Iger sees it as “a growth opportunity for our business”. It remains to be seen whether this shock therapy will work with Disney+ as it seems to have worked with Netflix.
