People suffering from erection problems despite using Viagra may find the solution in a synthetic compound derived from the venom of a South American spider, according to a recent study.
Brazilian researchers have come to the conclusion that the venom of “Phoneutria nigriventer” might constitute a real alternative to Viagra and other drugs, “Geo” magazine reported on Tuesday.
Also called banana spider, since it is often found in banana packages, “Phoneutria nigriventer”, which is one of the most dangerous spiders, secretes a very powerful neurotoxic venom which can sometimes be fatal.
The arachnid’s bite can cause symptoms such as increased blood pressure, nausea, abdominal cramps and convulsions, according to the findings of the study cited by “Geo” magazine.
Above all, it can cause “a prolonged and painful erection, which can lead to penile necrosis,” explained Maria Elena de Lima, professor of biomedicine and medicine at Santa Casa Belo Horizonte Hospital in Brazil, who is leading the research.
