Former President Álvaro Uribe spoke this Saturday regarding the controversy over alleged irregularities in the congressional electionsin which the Democratic Center only won 13 seats, the worst results since its founding in 2013.
“These elections leave all mistrust. E 14 full of strikeouts, amendments, signatures that do not match. Adding to the inconsistencies is the overwhelming vote for Petrismo in drug trafficking areas. This result cannot be accepted”, trilled Uribe.
According to the last vote count of the Registrar’s Office (from this Friday night), the Uribista party lost 54,964 votes. Thus passing from 14 to 13 seats. In contrast, with the community of Gustavo Petro, political opponent of Uribe, who garnered an additional 390,152 supportswith which he added another three seats in the Senate.
In addition, the Liberal Party and the New Liberalism recovered 4,450 and 22,948 votes, respectively.
With the new report they also lost votes: The Conservative Party (12,345), Centro Esperanza (50,964), Cambio Radical (24,372), Partido de la U (12,036), Mira and Colombia Justa Libres 26,629. Also, Citizen Force (22,948) and We Are Ready (104) that since the pre-count did not reach seats.
Militants from the Democratic Center and from other political sectors have also questioned the results of the recount.
For its part, the Registrar’s Office has indicated that: “What is happening in the ballots is normal topics of the votes of the tables and the errors incurred by the voting juries are being corrected”. The official explanation was ratified by the Electoral Observation Mission (EOM), which indicated that “there were a series of errors” and that at this time it is not regarding suspicions or suspicions of fraud.
“What we point out is that it begins a new part of the process that requires vigilance,” affirmed the director of the MOE.
On the results of the Democratic Center in the elections, Uribe took responsibility this Tuesday at the summit of his party: “We reduced many seats. The main person responsible for this decrease is me.because of the damage to my reputation,” Uribe told the current and elected congressmen.
In that meeting, he assured that one of the failed strategies that the community had was the hasty intention of some of its militants to jump from the House of Representatives to the Senate.
