A Pokémon Go player has shared his incredible luck, as he captured one of the rarest shiny Pokémon in the entire franchise.

There was a time when the Pokémon franchise made it incredibly difficult to encounter shiny Pokémon. You might play every main entry in the series from Gen 2 onwards and never encounter a single shiny, aside from the obligatory ones, like the Red Gyarados in Pokémon Gold & Silver.

In modern games, it is much easier to encounter shiny Pokémon, thanks to different methods that increase their probability of appearing, such as unlocking the Chroma Charm or using the Masuda method when breeding Pokémon.

Pokémon Go players have the easiest time encountering shiny Pokémon due to a naturally higher encounter rate and regular events that increase this chance even more. However, some shiny Pokémon are ridiculously difficult to find.

Lucky Pokémon Go player captures rare female shiny Apitrini

A user on the Pokémon Go Reddit has shared his incredible good fortune, as he captured a female shiny Apitrini, which is one of the most difficult shiny Pokémon to encounter in the entire series, including the main games.

“The main reason why it matters”explained the author, “this is because female Apitrini have a 1 in 8 chance. Combine that with the odds of shiny, 1 in 500, that gives you a 1 in 4000 chance of getting a female shiny Apitrini in Pokémon Go.”

The reason female Apitrini are so prized is because they are the only ones that can evolve. Female Apitrini can evolve into Apireine, while male Apitrini cannot evolve.

This means that if you want a shiny Apireine, you need to capture a female shiny Apitrini, which is much less likely to spawn than its male counterparts.

Fortunately, Pokémon Go players have an easier time catching shiny Apitrini than players of the main Pokémon games. For starters, you can spot female Apitrini on the map, as they have a red square on their heads. Pokémon Go also has a naturally higher shiny encounter rate than the main games.

A female shiny Apitrini is one of the most valuable Pokémon in the series, even if Apireine is not a competitive beast. The sheer rarity of encountering these Pokémon makes them desirable in many players’ minds, even if it’s just for an alternate color scheme and a few twinkling stars.
