TCL announced new phones and a tablet at MWC 2023.
Its latest slate includes the company’s new NXTPAPER 2.0 display technology.
Three of the new TCL 40 series smartphones are also landing for users in the US.
TCL is known for taking very few design risks. We got a glimpse of the near future earlier this year. Now at MWC 2023, the company has unveiled its latest batch of mobile devices and upgraded the NXTPAPER technology.
TCL NXTPAPER 11 is the first addition and lands with an 11-inch 2K display with NXTPAPER 2.0 technology, which is basically a matte screen. The second-generation display technology is still focused on taking care of the eyes, with a paper-like flicker-free panel, but now packs a brightness rating of 500 nits. That’s great news, given our biggest criticism of the NXTPAPER phone concept we were dealt with at CES 2023 was its lack of sparkle.
Internally, the new board packs the MediaTek Helio P60T octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This combo should suit most users’ purposes, from light multitasking to live streaming on the go. Adding to the NXTPAPER 11’s appeal is its 8,000mAh battery.
On paper, this glare-free screen makes it look like a solid alternative to the Kindle and has all the qualities that make one. As for the price, the device will cost $ 249 when it is launched globally in May, but there is no information on its availability in the United States yet. TCL also offers a slightly cheaper tablet devoid of the sleek display technology. The TCL Tab 11 packs the same chipset, storage, and battery for $179.
As for its smartphone lineup, TCL is bringing four new models to the 40 series.
At the top of the list, the TCL 40X 5G uses a MediaTek Dimensity 700 backbone to support a 6.56-inch HD+ 90Hz LCD screen. At the back, you will find a 50MP primary camera along with two 2MP dual cameras. The TCL 40XE 5G sits a little lower in the selection order, features the same display as its sibling but uses a 13MP main camera along with two 2MP rear cameras. An 8MP selfie camera can be found on both devices. Both phones are US exclusives and will retail for $169 and $199, respectively.
For those who want a slightly larger screen, the TCL 40XL lives up to its title. It offers a larger 6.75-inch HD display with a 50MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Buyers also get 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, but they’ll have to look elsewhere for 5G connectivity. Despite its size, it will cost a little less at $149.
Finally, TCL announced an Android 13 phone priced at $119 and dubbed the TCL 406. Made for the prepaid audience, the phone packs a 6.6-inch HD+ display.
