This monograph contains new methods of research on the brain

Yury V. Kistenev, a scientist from Tomsk State University (TSU), Nirmal Mazumder and Gireesh Gangadharan from the Manipal School of Life Sciences, India, published a monograph titled « Advances in Brain Imaging Techniques » (Springer, 2022). Scientists explain new approaches to central nervous system research.

The book reveals new non-invasive diagnostic methods capable of identifying disease at an early stage without taking biological tissue samples. Additionally, it describes how to combine biophotonic approaches, including molecular imaging, with artificial intelligence (AI). This combination would help better understand brain disorders.

The important role of AI in ABIT

The monograph describes classical brain imaging methods, optical methods, as well as new optical techniques. The use of AI technologies has an important place in the book. It is machine learning for medical diagnostics. AI approaches allow scientists to automatically classify images, distinguish norm from pathology, and check for disease.

The spatial resolution of optical methods are better than that of MRI. DF plus, they are more specific. By changing the wavelength of optical radiation, scientists might focus on particular parts of the brain, such as proteins or certain brain cells. Thus, they might study them more accurately.

Early diagnosis would increase the chances of recovery

This monograph contains information regarding brain imaging. This is why it is dedicated to specialists in this field. These data should allow experts to effectively use new optical methods for research on the brain.

TSU scientists, in partnership with research institutions, have developed new methods for diagnosing other diseases. These new instruments would be able to identify pathologies earlier, which would promote healing.
