This month of August, the European Union has set up a list of dangerous objects that are present in your home!
Very often, the European Union sets up directives which aim to improve health and energy efficiency. This is the reason why there is now a ban on having this list of dangerous objects who are present in your home !
European Union bans to improve!
There are tons of items that you think are good for you, but are harmful to your health. This is the case with interior products that you use every day. home fragrances, liquids to clean your house or even candles… But also childcare articles, furniture, clothes and many other things…
Know that oftenthese products are chemicals. This is therefore the reason why in April 2022, Europe implemented a new project which aims to eliminate certain toxic substances from consumer products. But NGOs are angry. Because according to them, there has been very little progress.
ClientEarth and EEB (European Environmental Bureau) denounce how this program takes time. However, the situation is serious because there are more than 200 million tonnes of hazardous chemicals for health each year in Europe. In any case, this is what the European statistics office Eurostat declares.
These then represent more than 70% of all chemical substances manufactured on the Old Continent. There are also “endocrine disruptors”, which have impacts on the functioning of the hormonal system.
Imagine that there was the EU directive 2011/65/EU on the reduction of hazardous substances. This aims to improve health. But also energy efficiency. There is therefore a ban on the use of dangerous substances which are nevertheless still present in some houses.
But what are these objects? And what are these substances that have such a big impact on others ? We tell you a little more below.
Very dangerous objects for your health!
The EU points the finger at mercury. The directive thus applies to electrical appliances. Among them, millions of lamps. But also fluorescent tubes that you most certainly have at home. In a few weeks, you will no longer be able to find them in stores, because their sale will be impossible.
If you have T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes, then be careful! Because their marketing will be prohibited from August 24, 2023. This is not a great first because the T5 fluorescent lamps and compact lamps with socket (CFLni) have suffered a sales ban.
And that’s not all ! Because you won’t be able to find pin halogen lamps (G4, GY6.35, G9) anymore. And this, from September 1, 2023. So do not hesitate to replace your tubes with LED bulbs. This is a very good idea to continue keep your old lamps. Know that they illuminate the same way.
And they also have the particularity of being comply with the regulations in force. For other alternatives, our colleagues from the Internet offer a 60 cm LED lighting strip. You can find them everywhere, like at Ikea for 24.99 euros.
But if the idea is to have a fluorescent tube, then you will find an LED tube ” to replace the 1,800 lumen T8 fluos, for 5.43 euros. Or if you need another shape, this circular LED tube of 1,800 lumens. To replace 30 W or 40 W fluorescent tubes. It is on Amazon for 13 euros”, say our colleagues
