Zelenskyj himself will present the plan at both the EU summit and the NATO defense ministers’ meeting on Thursday.
According to the Danish newspaper The politics and BBC the plan consists of five central points that will make the Ukrainians’ dream of a life without war come true already next year.
Official NATO invitation
* An official invitation from NATO to join the alliance.
Ukraine submitted a NATO application in 2022, but so far the prevailing view has been that NATO cannot invite countries that are at war.
* Moving the war into Russian territory through getting the green light to use Western long-range missiles against targets inside Russia.
So far, the US and Germany have said no to this.
* A non-nuclear deterrence package on Ukrainian territory. The details are classified, but may involve Nato soldiers on the ground in Ukraine.
* The EU and the US ensure the protection of Ukraine’s natural resources and critical raw materials against access to its economic potential.
Take over for the US
The last point in the plan, about what will happen when the war is over, is perhaps the most surprising, according to military analysts.
Here, Ukraine is offering to replace some of the US forces on European soil with Ukrainian troops.
It could be a smart move by Ukraine, believes military analyst Anders Puck Nielsen.
– The US is generally moving away from European security and would like to concentrate more on the US. Therefore, it may be smart for Ukraine to position itself as a country that can step in and take over the task instead, he tells Politiken.
