This is what the program of the Liberation Festival in Almere looks like

The 31st edition of the Flevoland Liberation Festival is just around the corner. This Sunday, May 5, is the day and, just like last year, the Esplanade will be transformed into a festival site. Curious about what’s on the programme? 1Almere lists it for you.

Main stage Esplanade

1:00 PM – Esplanade opens
1:30 PM – Children for Children
2.15 pm – Winner ‘Songs for Freedom’
2.55 pm – Lighting of the Liberation Fire by the King’s Commissioner, Arjen Gerritsen

10.15 pm – Flemming (Ambassador of Freedom)

The Esplanade is accessible from 1 p.m. The festival will be officially opened at 1:30 PM with an exclusive performance by Children for Children. They will then sing their new single called ‘Vrijheid’ for the first time.

The winner of the ‘Songs for Freedom’ competition will perform at 2:15 p.m. It will be announced on May 3 during the final who will be allowed to perform. The competition is organized by Poppodium de Meester and is an initiative to offer local talents a stage.

At 2.55 pm the Liberation Fire will be lit by the King’s Commissioner, Arjen Gerritsen. The fire is handed over by Els van Boxtel, who is this year’s ‘Difference Maker’. The flame will be picked up by Run2day running group in Wageningen. The runners are on their way to the Esplanade all night with the flame.

Rapper Bizzey will perform at 3 p.m., followed by the Nederpop Allstars from 4 p.m. During this performance, all well-known Nederpop hits will be performed, sung by the original singers. Present are Erik Mesie (Toontje Lager), Loïs Lane, Henk Westbroek (Charity), Nol Havens (VOF de Kunst), Alides Hidding (Time Bandits) and Hans de Booij.

Douwe Bob kicks off the evening at 6:15 PM. He has two big hits and won the Music in Media Award last week for ‘This World is Our Home’. The Dirty Daddies will then take to the stage at 8 p.m. Flemming closes the festival at 10:15 p.m.

Strandfestival Zand Silent Disco Area

Young Movement Stage

A platform where young people complete their own program in collaboration with youth workers. From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM there will be performances by young talents, such as Crossroad, Fince, Kiky, Tjerome & Lina, Cinnabys, Anisa, KayKay, Amy, K. Sosa & Vientje and Melody Jesarela.

K=L Internship (location Kunst is Leuk, Citadel 22)

Almeerse Talents will take over the stage at ‘Kunst is Leuk’ from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This is a meeting place for Almere artists and makers. Curselifter, Pliff, Crossroads and DR!PD, with a Silent Disco Afterparty afterwards.

Freedom soup with a good conversation

From 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM you can taste the freedom soup from the team of TV chef and inspiration Sharon de Miranda for free.
