Notice to those who have a Livret A. In a few weeks, the government will be able to use the money there…
Bad news alert! In a report from February 9, 2023, the media Les Echos announced that the government might use part of your Livret A for a curious reason.
A Livret A that can pay you big
In France, the Livret A is the most widely used savings product. It therefore allows you to save money, to deal with your unforeseen events, or to finance your future projects.
Thanks to this booklet A, you have the possibility of making free deposits, but also withdrawals, and this, at any time of the day, but without charge. Also know that interest is exempt from income tax.
In France, any natural person can hold a Livret A. The rule is the same for everyone: only one Livret A per person and per bank. You can also make one for your children. so that they can benefit from it from an early age.
Note that it is also possible for a legal person to open an A booklet. This possibility is however reserved for the associations mentioned in 5 of article 206 of the general tax code. Or associations of law 1901 which do not have lucrative activities, not subjected to the tax on the companies for syndicates of co-owners and HLM organisations.
A revaluation of savings
The “association” booklet A is therefore offered by traditional banks and some online banks. It enjoys the same tax benefits as the classic Livret A and the same interest rate. The ceiling is much higher, since it is set at 76,500 euros for an association.
Over the past five years, its rate has been revalued at the beginning of February 2023. “The rate of the favorite savings of the French, which was until then at 2%, then climbed to 3%”, might we read on the media Buzzly.
This is the reason why the government has been interested in it for several months. Indeed, the money that is on your booklet A might be used to finance new nuclear reactors.
It is in any case a wish of Emmanuel Macron. Indeed, the government plans to build six new nuclear reactors by 2035.
And when we know that near 375 billion euros from 55 million French people sleep on the Livret A, the government thinks it’s the right pick.
The Caisse des dépôts et consignations (CDC) has recently communicated on these figures. She thus clarified that the idea of puncturing the French via their Livret A was the most interesting solution.
With the money recovered from the Livrets A of the French, the government would have a tidy sum of 51.7 billion euros. Just that.
The booklet A taxed?
“It can bring a financial windfall immediately. And not to resort to a loan on the market”, said Nicolas Goldberg, energy expert.
He added this: “It thus makes it possible to share the risks between taxpayers. And the investor and provide visibility over time on the investment”.
According to Echoes, the State is currently looking for solutions to finance large-scale projects. The construction of reactors financed with French money might therefore be a reality in the years to come.
Les Echos thus report that hundreds of billions of euros are sleeping on the Livret A of the French. This money might therefore benefit the State. “The Livret A is one of the few resources that allows you to deploy very long-term financing. This corresponds quite well to the nuclear profile”concluded an anonymous source who works for the public authorities, at Les Echos.
