Many people suffer from high blood pressure, and it is one of the causes of many diseases, as it causes damage to the body slowly over time, such as heart attack, kidney failure, and other health complications, according to the “medicinenet” website.

Coronary artery disease (CAD)

CAD occurs when plaques build up in the arteries near your heart. This slows blood flow, which can lead to chest pain and an irregular heartbeat.

– Heart attack

When enough plaques build up, or a clump of plaques breaks off, it can cause a heart attack, depriving the heart muscle of oxygen and nutrients.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD)

Peripheral arterial disease is similar to CAD, but affects blood vessels far from your heart, such as those in your arms, legs, head or stomach. You may feel pain or cramping in your legs, often when walking or climbing stairs, and it can also make you tired.

If left untreated, it can cause more serious problems such as stroke, ulcers and loss of circulation in your legs, leading to amputation.

Heart failure

High blood pressure can narrow your arteries and, over time, make your heart work harder, weaken and cause heart failure.

– enlarged heart

The more difficult it is to move blood, the thicker your heart muscle, and as a result, the heart’s ability to function less, indicating that your tissues may not be getting the oxygen and nutrients they need.

– brain attack

High blood pressure also causes plaque to build up in the arteries that supply the brain, slowing blood flow to the rest of the body and causing vascular dementia.

– Kidney failure

High blood pressure is the second leading cause of kidney failure, as it narrows the blood vessels that the kidneys use to help get rid of waste and extra fluid.

– Visual impairment

Over time, high blood pressure can slow blood flow to the retina, the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eyeball, causing slower blood flow to the optic nerve, which helps send signals to your brain, and impaired vision.
