Among the common customs on Eid al-Adha is the gathering of children before slaughtering the sacrifice to watch it, but what many families are unaware of is the impact of this on the mental health of children.
Dr. Jamal Froiz, a mental health consultant, said that some parents force their children to see the slaughter of the sacrifice, without realizing that this may negatively affect their mental health.
Froez stressed that forcing children to see the slaughter of the sacrifice may make them suffer from nightmares at night, because of their intense feeling of fear in addition to their lack of awareness of the customs of the sacrifice.
Froez explained that children treat animals as friendly to them, so seeing them slaughtered causes anxiety and tension and is accompanied by strong crying.
Froez recommended that children should be prepared for this, as it is taken into account to talk to them regarding the customs of the Eid, with the need not to force him to do things that raise his concern, such as touching the blood of the sacrifice.
He added that some people suffer from a phobia of blood, where they feel fear and extreme anxiety when seeing blood and wounds, and it may develop into vomiting.
