Officially, the Disciplinary Body of the National Soccer League of Guatemala shared the sanction received by coach Julio César Laínez, who on April 3 attacked the player Diego Ruiz while he was still coach of CSD Zacapa.

The event happened in the 2-2 draw between Zacapa and Comunicaciones at the David Ordóñez Bardales stadium. It was in the second half that Laínez headbutted and hit Diego Ruiz in the face after having exchanged words.

The action caused outrage among the fans of the eastern club and the club itself did not take long to make its position known: Laínez was dismissed from his position and the Brazilian Gerson Voss will be the one who will take the responsibility of directing Zacapa in the three remaining games of the season. Closing 2024.

This Friday, April 5, the Disciplinary Body met and decided to harshly sanction the coach: six months suspension from all federated football activities and a fine of 10 thousand quetzales.

In the same minutes it is announced that the CSD Zacapa also received a fine of 20 thousand quetzales for “the throwing of objects onto the playing field, impacting without causing damage“and another more than 10 thousand for”failure to comply with any of the security obligations and requirements established in Article 25 of the Competition Regulations“.

The Zacapa team is currently in the fight not to lose the category and on matchday 14 of Clausura 2024 they will play a vital duel for their permanence against Xinabajul Huehue, a direct rival for not falling to the First Division.

The duel will take place at the Los Cuchumatanes stadium on Sunday, April 7 at 5 p.m. A day before, a duel will also be played that will be key in the destiny of CSD Zacapa:

Xelajú MC will receive CSD Municipal at its home, the Mario Camposeco stadium. If the superchivo team beats the reds and Zacapa loses against Xinabajul, they would practically say goodbye to the Major League.

To avoid relegation, Zacapa must add 9 of the 9 available points and rely on another setback from Xinabajul.
