This is the reason Joni, a flagpole climber, passed the TNI AD NCO selection

HEAD OF Information for Kodam (Kapendam) IX/Udayana Colonel Inf. Agung Udayana said Yohanes Ande Kalla alias Joni, who went viral for his heroic action of climbing a flagpole in 2018, finally passed the selection for TNI AD non-commissioned officer candidates.

Agung Udayana said that Joni had taken part in the entire TNI AD non-commissioned officer selection series and was included in the special skills selection category.

Even though it was initially stated that he did not meet the requirements due to height, Joni had the opportunity to take a series of tests to explore other specific potentials.

Because of his seriousness and enthusiasm in taking a series of tests, supported by the guidance of the trainers using the available time, said Kapendam, the person concerned finally reached the central level.

“Joni was declared a graduate in the Regular PK TNI AD NCO Admission for Skills Category in 2024 in Bandung,” said Agung Udayana, quoted by Antara, Thursday (26/9).

Kapendam explained that Joni’s success was the result of her hard work and sincerity in achieving her goals.

Next, Joni will carry out education at Rindam IX/Udayana according to his registration area and join other regular PK non-commissioned officer candidates who have passed the selection.

In accordance with the TNI AD Non-Commissioned Officer Candidate Acceptance Schedule, Joni along with 218 people will take part in the 2024 TNI AD PK Non-Commissioned Officer Education Opening Ceremony on September 27 2024 at Rindam IX/Udy.

He explained that Joni would participate in this education for 5 months, then undergo vocational education for 3 months.

Previously, Joni went viral because of his reckless action of climbing a 15 meter high flag pole during the commemoration ceremony of the 73rd Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at Mota Ain Field, Belu Regency, 17 August 2018.

Because of this action, Joni and her parents were invited by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to attend a state event at the Presidential Palace.

Joni, who was invited by the President to the Presidential Palace with his parents, will now become a state servant in accordance with his request to the President of the Republic of Indonesia at that time thanks to his efforts and hard work.

With all the assessments and considerations by the selection committee, Joni finally succeeded in graduating to take part in the 2024 TNI AD Non-Commissioned Officer Education. (Ant/P-5)
