The official spokesman for the General Directorate of Prisons in Saudi Arabia, Colonel Dr. Bandar Al-Kharmi, denied, in a statement to Al-Arabiya.net, today, Saturday, the approval of the “exemption” initiative to purchase the remaining period of the prisoner’s sentence.
Al-Kharmi clarified that the “exemption” initiative is still under study, and it will be published through the competent authorities once it is approved.
Tweeters on “Twitter” had circulated a video clip listing information regarding the “Exemption” initiative, which will allow the prisoner or his family to buy half of the sentence by public right only following spending the private right, for a sum of money estimated at 18,000 riyals per year.
According to the circulating video, this initiative will be applied to prisoners who do not speak Arabic, and it is conditioned on the prisoner’s lack of criminal records and good behavior.
