The Minister of Social Affairs, Nadine Nathalie Awanang Anato, supervised on Monday the 2024 edition of the open days of the Ndossi and Akomgha National Center, located in the commune of Akanda, in the northern suburbs of Libreville. For the organizers and the public authorities, it is a question of clearly displaying their commitment to the social inclusion of autistic and Down syndrome children and ultimately promoting their participation in the development of the country.

These open days are intended to raise awareness of the specialized services offered by the Ndossi and Akomgha Center to the many families of autistic and Down’s syndrome children and to offer free medical diagnosis to those who need it.

“The management of disabilities remains a key issue in government action, which aims to ensure the reduction of social exclusion for all and in particular for children with autism and those with Down syndrome. In specific cases, autism and Down syndrome are poorly understood by the general public in our societies and constitute a complex phenomenon in the lives of our compatriots with this disability and in those of their parents.”said Marielle Nzong Ndong, Director of the Ndossi and Akomgha Center.

The Minister of Social Affairs, for his part, recalled that disability care remains a priority for the government. “Through these open days, the Department of Social Affairs, for which I am responsible, is materializing the desire of the President of the Transition to offer children in social difficulty better conditions of supervision, learning and adaptation for successful integration into society with a view to their empowerment.”explained Nadine Nathalie Awanang Anato.

During this day, the Ma Bannière Foundation, dear to the first lady, Zita Oligui Nguéma, also a stakeholder in the initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Ndossi and Akomgha Center, for the well-being of the children affected and the balance of their respective families.

The start of the school year at the Ndossi and Akomgha Center is therefore looking promising, with a range of activities as diverse as they are varied. An offer ranging from educational activities to medical and paramedical diagnostics, as well as awareness-raising on autism and Down syndrome; thus reinforcing the authorities’ commitment to meeting the challenge of education for all.
