The Corruption Eradication COMMISSION (KPK) has opened its voice regarding the determination of suspect status to the Chair of the East Kalimantan Kadin, Dayang Donna Walfiaries Tania, when she was a candidate for deputy regent (cawabup) of North Penajam Paser (PPU). In fact, the Anti-Corruption Agency previously stated that it would postpone naming regional head candidates as suspects until the regional elections were completed.

Corruption Eradication Committee spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto explained that the postponement rule applies if a report is received after the regional head candidate has been determined. The postponement does not apply to cases that have been previously investigated.

“The case which has entered the investigation and investigation stage is still ongoing,” said Tessa in a written statement, Wednesday (16/10).

Dayang Donna became a suspect in a case exposure in September 2024. She was caught in a case of alleged bribery in the mining business permit (IUP) process in East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

The Corruption Eradication Commission emphasized that the process of determining the suspect was carried out carefully. The Anti-Corruption Agency also claims that there is no political element in investigating the case. This caution also applies to newly reported cases.

“Reports that only come in during the regional election process will be reviewed very carefully so that there is no black campaign to bring down political opponents who are taking part in the contestation in question,” said Tessa.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) questioned Dayang Donna Walfiaries Tania regarding an alleged bribery case related to an IUP in East Kalimantan some time ago. It turns out that he is related to Awang Faroek Ishak.

“Yes, this is still family. So, we are not (examining) his position as Chairman of Kadin,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu in Jakarta, Friday, October 4 2024.

The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) named three suspects in the alleged corruption case related to IUP in East Kalimantan, namely AFI, DDWT and ROC. Based on the information gathered, one of them is former East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak.

The case has been under investigation since September 19 2024. The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has asked the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to grant preventive status to the suspects. (Can/I-2)
