With Lake Hallstatt and Lake Gosau, two Upper Austrian mountain lakes were able to increase their presence among the top 20 the most compared to 2018. As of August 2, 2024, Lake Constance reached more than 2.6 million posts on Instagram. Its location in the border triangle of Austria, Switzerland and Germany is primarily responsible for the high hashtag presence. The Bregenz Festival Stage, the Lake Constance shipping company and the flower island of Mainau were identified as particular attractions for photographers.

With 571,437 posts, Lake Wörthersee is the first purely Austrian lake to exceed the half-million post mark on Instagram, thus maintaining second place in the ranking. The Tyrolean Achensee, which is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts due to a ban on motorboats and often ideal wind conditions, achieved the greatest increase in attention among Austria’s top 10 lakes, relegating Lake Neusiedl and Lake Attersee to fourth and fifth place.
By far the biggest jumps in presence within the top 20 are offered by two mountain lakes in Upper Austria: Lake Hallstatt (12th place) and Lake Gosau (16th place) experienced a real posting boom on the photo platform Instagram, with an increase of 324 percent and 371 percent respectively over the past six years.
