The Indonesian contingent officially introduced the costumes worn at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Friday (26/7) local time or Saturday (27/7) early morning WIB. The clothes designed were inspired by the painter Raden Saleh.
The Indonesian contingent’s clothes, designed by Didiet Hediprasetyo, feature traditional Javanese clothing with a touch of novelty.
“I am so grateful to be able to design the official uniform for the opening parade for athletes representing Indonesia at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. I hope to create a design that embodies the pride, spirit, and resilience of our nation,” said Didiet.
“At the same time, ensuring that every athlete shows up and is their best self when competing on the world stage,” added the son of President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
A total of 14 athletes and officials took part in the Indonesian team parade including Chef de Mission (CdM) Anindya Bakrie. Judo athlete Maryam March Maharani became the flag bearer accompanied by cyclist Bernard Bernjamin van Aert and two swimmers Azzahra Permatahani and Joe Aditya.
Didit Hediprasetyo’s creations are inspired by the spirit of respect for Indonesian cultural heritage and the spirit of unity and nationalism. The figure of Raden Saleh as a pioneer of Javanese romanticism painters became the basic inspiration for the clothing collection.

The journey of Raden Saleh’s work to Europe is considered to reflect the rise of the Indonesian nation on the international stage.
The men’s athlete’s shirt is made of washed-out denim inspired by the look of a biker jacket melted with a beskap. White trousers are the bottom.
For female athletes, they wear a red kutubaru kebaya top paired with a white jumpsuit to combine an elegant sporty impression.

“A pride, spirit and toughness as an Indonesian team is reflected in the clothes we wear. A combination of local wisdom, inspired by the legendary Indonesian figure who left a trail of work at the Louvre, Raden Saleh,” said CdM Indonesia Anindya Bakrie.
Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari was proud and said that the opening ceremony was the best opportunity to introduce Indonesia as a great nation.
“Moreover, I and the other Indonesian team members wore clothes made by the nation’s children that have been recognized by the world. Of course we should be proud,” said Okto.
The parade will be held on boats on the Seine River, ending at the Trocadero near Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower. It will be the first time the opening ceremony of the Olympics has been held outside a stadium.
