Olympic calendar for the 2022 Winter Olympics: dates of the competitions The Beijing Winter Olympics are already underway, which started on February 4 with its opening ceremony in which the national delegations paraded and the lighting of the Olympic Flame took place. These games are marked by strict prevention measures due to the covid-19 pandemic and by the diplomatic boycott promoted by the United States in response to the alleged human rights abuses in China, but behind all the noise, the real protagonists, the athletes of each team, will fight to gain a place on the podium and add a medal to their country’s medal table.
The games were inaugurated on February 4 but the competitions started on the 2nd of this month and will last until Sunday 20 of February where the athletes of the national teams will dispute the medals in a total of 15 sports disciplines ranging from alpine skiing, snowboarding or skating to skeleton, curling or Nordic combined. Although this year the games will be held behind closed doors due to covid-19, they will be broadcast live and in Spain you will be able to see the competitions in which the members of the Spanish delegation participate through RTVE and private channels Eurosport, and DAZN.
The favorites
This year Spain has 14 qualified to compete in some of the competitions but has few ballots to get medals. However, one of the favorites of the national delegation to win a medal this February is the ‘snowboarder’ Queralt Castellet, born in Sabadell. On the other hand, Lucas Eguibar, the current snowboard world champion also has ballots when it comes to adding a medal to the medal table in Spain. In relation to the sum of medals from the other countries, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Norwegian team or the German team, are the countries that usually succeed in this sporting event and tend to accumulate the largest number of medals, but it will be necessary to see if this year they manage to be at the top of the medal table.
