A Russian health expert has revealed the best alternatives to sugar. The endocrinologist, Dr. Zahra Pavlova, indicated on her account on the “Telegram” network, that it is better to replace sugar with the diabetic stevia plant, as the level of sweetness of the extract of this plant is higher than traditional sugar and does not contain calories.
She added that the stevia plant does not participate in the metabolism of carbohydrates in the body, moreover, it resists heat and does not degrade during the cooking process.
“The problem is finding this plant,” she said. “When fermenting it, we get a liquid with a special taste. Stevia extract is sold in stores. But you have to look for the purest among them. Because some of them contain artificial sweeteners that replace sugar, such as fructose and others.”
She pointed out that the stevia plant can be used in the preparation of various types of sweets, including cake and others.
The specialist pointed out that the other and safe alternative to sugar is Erythrol. This sugar is less sweet than stevia and 100 grams of it contains only 20 calories.
She explained that the stevia plant and erythrol are distinguished by not causing tooth decay or flatulence.
