Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH) is a form of transformation of the Telecommunication Equipment Testing Center (BBPPT) of the Directorate of Post and Information Resources and Equipment, Ministry of Communication and Information.

IDTH is an international standard digital device testing center, as well as the most complete and largest in Southeast Asia. Arie said that IDTH was equipped with various advanced international class digital facilities for features such as radio frequency telecommunications, electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety and specific absorption rate (SAR).

“This testing facility aims to ensure the safety and security of telecommunications equipment users in Indonesia, and standardize export and import equipment products,” said Arie following the inauguration of BBPPT in Depok, West Java, Tuesday (7/5).

Devices that can be tested at the facility include laptops, cellphones, Bluetooth, access points, digital television, handy talkies, radar and others.

The inauguration also marks the addition of device testing capacity at IDTH. In 2023 there will be 644 features tested at this facility. As technology develops and equipment is added, in 2024, testing capacity in 2024 is projected to increase to 1,600 features. Then, the target number will be increased once more to 5,000 features per year in 2025-2026.

The Ministry of Communication and Information is also developing the IDTH function, not only as a testing center but also as a center of excellence for digital devices. Collaboration with various campuses can increase the development of Indonesia’s resources in facing advances in digital technology.

The Ministry of Communication and Information also hopes that practitioners and experts can collaborate to produce various technological innovations. IDTH Kemkominfo also facilitates local industry players and MSMEs to carry out equipment testing and develop innovations.

“We will make it free for MSMEs,” promised Budi Arie. (Z-11)
