The $2 bill

The $2 bills printed between 1862 and 1917 have an estimated value of $1,000. The first thing that is taken into account is their age, because the paper money used was manufactured almost a century and a half ago.

Copies with the red seal can be worth between $300 and $2,500, while those with the brown or blue seal cost several hundred thousand dollars.

Recently, a $2 bill printed in 2003 sold for $2,400 at Heritage Auction. In other words, it’s not just the age that counts.

This specimen was resold for $4,000 and the auction house does not rule out the possibility of obtaining more profits than those received by its previous owners.

How many copies are in circulation?

The U.S. Currency Education Program estimates that regarding 1.2 billion of these notes worth $2.4 billion are in circulation.

On the other hand, uncirculated notes from 1995 are worth $500, and those from the Federal Reserve’s Premium Series No. 12 from 2003 might fetch $700 or more.

The Federal Reserve’s latest report in 2022 indicated that the number of $2 bills in circulation is 1.5 billion, which would be 54.1 billion bills that circulated that year alone.
