Russia has had a new mega submarine for a few days. The mysterious K-329 Belgorod has been handed over to the Russian Navy – officially for research purposes. But there is much more behind it: The K-329 is the largest nuclear submarine in the world.
The dimensions of the submarine are breathtaking. As the American marine expert HI Sutton reports on Twitter, the vehicle is said to have a length of 184 meters. That would make it the longest submarine ever, writes the world”. Unlike submarines previously built in Russia, it should also be able to be used for special missions at great depths.
Six 100-ton torpedoes
In addition, the boat should not be used for research purposes, as Russia claims. Rather, the K-329 is a wartime submarine with enormous dimensions. The submarine will be 184 meters long, 15 to 18 meters wide and nine meters high. Once submerged, Sutton says it can stay submerged for up to four weeks without having to surface in between.
Up to six giant Poseidon nuclear torpedoes, each 24 meters long and weighing 100 tons, will be carried and launched on board. According to Sutton, the torpedoes are to be used as a “weapon of retaliation” if Russia were to be attacked with a nuclear weapon.
Developed for ten years
The stealth weapon can be equipped with a nuclear warhead and has a range of up to 10,000 kilometers. Last November, Deputy Secretary of State for International Security under then US President Donald Trump (74), Christopher A. Ford (53), said Poseidon was designed to «To swamp US coastal cities with radioactive tsunamis».
Russia itself also fired up the propaganda machine around the Poseidon torpedoes. An expert on Russian state television claimed that if a Poseidon torpedo hit Great Britain, the country would be hit by a «up to 500 meters high radioactive tidal wave» flooded. However, Western experts classified this idea as unrealistic.
According to insider information, the K-329 Belgorod has been developed, built and tested for ten years. In 2019, the submarine was tested in the water for the first time, since June 2021 the submarine has been on sea trials. Now the K-329, referred to by experts as the “doomsday weapon”, is officially on its way. However, experts currently consider it rather unrealistic that it will play a role in the Ukraine war. (zis)
