Released more than ten years ago, this very particular Japanese role-playing game has resurfaced on social networks in recent weeks. And obviously, it didn’t bring back good memories for many Internet users…

At the same time, the project is intriguing at first glance with its very particular graphics. If the settings are 3D, the heroine is in 2D and in an anime style which contrasts with the environments. If this element allowed the title to stand out before its release, we cannot say that it was enough to convince the crowds.
With a Metacritic score of 42/100 and a rating of 10/20 in our columns, the game from imageepoch and NIS America is really not a success. Too repetitive combat system, failed exploration, uninteresting side quests… even 2D/3D rendering doesn’t work in the long term. Ten years later, players still seem to agree with this observation. “One of the worst RPGs I’ve played to date and the voice acting on those vampires…” confesses @IrrelevantJohn. “One of the worst RPGs I’ve ever played, but the commitment to fake gaming in an early 10s seasonal anime aesthetic was certainly commendable for the time” declares @frogkaro who is more gentle with the game. “One of the strangest and most intriguing games of the PS3/360 era. The funniest part of all this is still one of the responses to @gamevecanti’s message. In commentary, we find Yuzo Koshiro, legendary composer of SEGA game music like Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Shenmue or more recently Streets of Rage 4, simply replied: “sigh“. Further, he details his comment by explaining: “It’s not serious, but ‘the BGM (BackGround Music, the track in the background) of this dark wood should have been used in a city, whose atmosphere is much brighter. I’m not sure why they chose to put it here instead.. Don’t you think she’s out of place in this scene?“. A fairly relevant comment from a musician who has nothing more to prove today. In any case, ‘if you are still curious to try the game, we remind you that it is blocked on PS3 and Xbox 360 and that there is really, really no risk of being entitled to a remaster or remake in the years to come.
