The Cuban government implemented new measures for the renewal of passports, according to Decree 91 published in the Official Gazette of Cuba No.38.

Since July 1, 2023, Cuban passports have a validity of ten years for those over 16 years of age and five years for minors.

However, passports issued before this date remain valid until the expiration date indicated on the document.

Additionally, from July 1, 2023, emigrants before January 1, 1971 must use the Cuban passport to enter Cubaas established by the new Constitution.

CUBAN PASSPORT RENEWAL 2024

Cuban citizens residing abroad must apply for a passport at Cuban diplomatic or consular representations, or other authorized Cuban offices abroad.

According to the Cuban Consulate in Rome, for example, to renew your passport, you must meet a list of requirements:

  • Present your latest passport. In case of loss, you must bring a police report.
  • Photocopy of the data page and the RE page (if you have it).
  • 1 passport-type photo of 4.5 x 4.5 cm. (Current photo, high resolution, light background, from the front, hair up, face and head uncovered, without dark glasses)
  • Legible photocopy of the Cuban birth certificate.
  • Fill out the form with black ink. (The signature should not touch the edges of the rectangle for adults)

For minors the procedure is the same and one of the two parents can attend.

PRICE OF THE CUBAN PASSPORT IN 2024

Cuban consulates abroad will charge in USD or EURdepending on where it applies.

For Europe, the United States and other countries, these are the rates:

  • First time, renewal or loss (adults, valid for 10 years): €180/$180
  • First time, renewal or loss (under 16 years old, valid for 5 years): €140/$140

Please note that additional fees may apply for non-face-to-face procedures or through agencies.
