If a person wants to close a business, in short, because they have stopped or will stop carrying out commercial activities, they can do this from the Virtual Agency of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT).

This is in accordance with the definitive cancellation of one or more establishments, based on the provisions of Decree 6-91 of the Congress of the Republic.

The Mayor of Collection, Erick Echeverría, explained that prior to the approval of the cancellation management, the request made will be verified by a SAT collaborator, in response to the requirements presented; That is to say, the procedure is not immediate.

However, when the cancellation is approved, the system inactivates the establishment and the tax obligations associated with it.

Steps to follow

Echeverría indicated the steps to follow to process the cancellation:

  1. Enter the SAT portal in the option -Virtual Agency-
  2. On the menu -Taxpayer Services-, enter -RTU- and choose the option -Cessation of Activities-
  3. From the list of cessation types, select -Definitive Cancellation-
  4. Enter the cancellation date and attach the corresponding requirements, depending on the type of person who owns the establishment
  5. Prior to approval of cancellation, the request will be verified by a SAT collaborator

Requirements for individual person

  • Have a SAT Virtual Agency user
  • Be ratified in the Digital RTU prior to carrying out the process of cessation of activities with a Personal Identification Document (DPI) or a valid passport as appropriate.
  • If you have authorized paper tax documents, you must present the unused authorized documents duly cancelled. Attach a legible copy of the last document used, next unused and last range of each series of authorized documents (In case of loss, misplacement, deterioration, theft or theft of the authorized documents, attach a legible copy of the complaint filed with the corresponding authorities, which is required to contain at least the following data: resolution number, type of document, series and range.)
  • Purchase and sales books or small taxpayer purchases and sales book, with up-to-date records, attach the folio where the last movement was recorded, the last folio operated and the next blank folio duly cancelled. If necessary, additional pages will be requested, according to the review carried out.
  • Accounting books with up-to-date records, attach a page where the last movement was recorded, the last page operated and the next blank page duly canceled from each of the authorized books, when applicable.
  • If you carried out commercial activities, cancellation of the patent or, when applicable, the certification of the Commercial Registry of denial of the patent, valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
  • Be solvent of your tax obligations (without omissions)

Requirements for legal entity

  • Have a SAT Virtual Agency user
  • Legal representative updated as an individual or ratified in the RTU Digital prior to carrying out the cancellation process
  • Unused authorized documents properly cancelled. Attach a legible copy of the last document used, next unused and last range of each series of authorized documents
  • Purchase and sales books or small taxpayer purchases and sales book, with up-to-date records, attach the folio where the last movement was recorded, the last folio operated and the next blank folio duly cancelled. If necessary, additional pages will be requested, according to the review carried out.
  • Accounting books with up-to-date records, attach a page where the last movement was recorded, the last page operated and the next blank page duly canceled from each of the authorized books, when applicable.
  • Cancellation of patent or certification of company liquidation, when applicable (cancellation of NIT Tax Identification Number), valid for 30 business days from issuance
  • Be solvent of your tax obligations (without omissions).

According to official information, the definitive cessation management in Virtual Agency was implemented on December 21, 2021, since then and to date, 45,278 definitive cancellations of establishments have been registered: 44 thousand 13 of individuals and 1 thousand 265 of legal entities.
