This is how Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in Sweden – sales of Guinness are soaring

On Sunday, March 17, it is Saint Patrick’s Day and the Irish national day is getting bigger and bigger in Sweden. This is not least noticeable in the sale of Guinness, which is soaring at over 70 percent in Swedish pubs and taverns. This is shown by Carlsberg Sweden’s new figures.

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in memory of Ireland’s patron saint, Patrick, and worldwide more than 70 million people gather to toast Ireland’s national day. Ireland’s national drink Guinness is a given feature of the celebration: More than 13 million glasses of Guinness are drunk around the world during the day.

The Swedes also increasingly contribute to this figure. Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations are growing in Sweden, which is reflected in Guinness sales. Throughout March, sales increase by over 70 percent and rush in connection with Saint Patrick’s Day.

– We have seen an increasing interest in St. Patrick’s Day in Sweden in recent years and sales of Guinness have reached new record levels. Two years ago, Guinness alcohol-free was also launched, which has led to even more people discovering Ireland’s black gold, says Ole Höglind, marketing manager at Carlsberg Sweden, which sells and distributes Guinness on the Swedish market.

How to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Sweden
Another important part during St. Patrick’s day is the traditional parade that takes place in large and small cities all over the world, so also in Sweden, which for 19 years has had its own St. Patrick’s Day parade organized by the Swedish-Irish Association. The parade departs from Kungsträdgården in Stockholm on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m., but the festivities begin already at noon with, among other things, Irish dancing and music.

But it is also great to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day wherever you are in the country. All you have to do is step into the nearest Irish pub and join in the festivities that take place throughout the weekend.
