On Thursday morning, Magda Linette (45th WTA) played theoretically against her best rival in the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan. Previously, the Pole had beaten Lyudmila Samsonova (19th WTA) and Lesia Tsurenko (96th WTA), and now she had to face Daria Kasatkina (11th WTA).

Linette played a really great match and won against her much higher ranked opponent 6:2, 6:3 in just 73 minutes. Of course, thanks to this, she was in the quarterfinals of the competition, where she would play against Coco Gauff (4th WTA) and scored a lot of points as well as a significant cash reward.
This is how much Magda Linette earned for advancing to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. There could be much more
Thanks to her advancement to the quarterfinals, Linette added 155 points to the WTA ranking and currently moves up six places in the live ranking to 39th place. Her current achievements are 1,396 points, and if Gauff defeats her, she will gain 1,571 points and advance to around 37th place.
However, points are not all that the Pole won. After three victories, the 32-year-old has already secured a really nice sum of money. Specifically, it is USD 73,000, or almost PLN 290,000. But this doesn’t have to be the end.
A victory against the favorite of the tournament will give Linette a semi-final, for which the organizers predicted as much as USD 159.5 thousand, i.e. PLN 625,000. For a possible loss in the final, you can “raise” as much as $309,000, and for a triumph in the entire tournament, an impressive $525,115, almost PLN 2.1 million.
According to the official WTA website, Linette has already earned $871,000 on all tournaments in 2024. In turn, during her career, the Pole secured USD 6.9 million and in Wuhan she may exceed the barrier of seven million.
The match between Magda Linette and Coco Gauff is scheduled for Friday, October 11 in the morning. The last time the Pole and the American faced each other was in the 1/16 finals of the US Open in 2021, and Gauff won 5:7, 6:3, 6:4.
Magda Linette: A Polish Powerhouse in Wuhan
Ladies and gentlemen, grab your popcorn and tighten your headbands! On Thursday morning, our favorite Polish tennis player, Magda Linette, made waves as she took on Daria Kasatkina. You know, Kasatkina—the one who’s ranked 11th, but I’m pretty sure that only matters on paper. Don’t let the numbers fool you; you see, this is where magic happens! Our girl Linette, rated 45th in the WTA, dusted off her racket and served a lesson in humility to her supposedly ‘superior’ rival by winning decisively, 6:2, 6:3 in just 73 minutes. I’ve seen tea brews longer!
Chasing Points and Punching Above Her Weight
Now, let’s talk about those juicy ranking points! By smashing her way into the quarterfinals, Linette snagged herself 155 shiny points and leveled up in the rankings from 45th to 39th. You’ve got to love a good underdog story—just like every great romantic comedy, but with fewer awkward dates and more sweat! But hold your applause; there’s more. If she takes down Coco Gauff in their upcoming battle, she could vault up to around 37th place! Now that’s what I call a promotion. Someone get her a balloon!
Cash Flow: Sweet Cash and Big Dreams
And speaking of balloons, let’s float into the financial realm. Thanks to her stunning performance so far, Linette’s already raked in an eye-watering USD 73,000 from this Wuhan journey alone. That’s nearly PLN 290,000! I mean, who knew hitting a fuzzy yellow ball could be so lucrative? Hell, if I knew, I might have swapped my stand-up career for a tennis racket! But wait, it could get even better. If Linette pulls off a stunner and wins against Gauff, she’ll be eyeing up to USD 159.5 thousand for a semi-final win and, brace yourselves, up to $525,115 if she grabs the whole tournament! You’d think I’d just opened a new bank account listening to that. I can hear the money counting already!
Aiming for Seven Million – No Pressure!
Now, here’s where it gets even more thrilling. Throughout her career, the Polish sensation has amassed a staggering $6.9 million. By the time she’s done in Wuhan, she could break the seven-million barrier! And who says hard work doesn’t pay off? I can hear parents everywhere saying, “Study hard, kids!” while they’re secretly thinking, “But have you considered tennis?”
The Battle Awaits: Linette vs. Gauff
So, what’s next? Linette is all set to face off against Coco Gauff—the girl who beat her in a nail-biting match at the US Open back in 2021. That memory might just add a sprinkle of spice to their next matchup! Scheduled for October 11, this match promises to be electrifying! Will Linette shake off her past defeat? Will Coco be the wall she can’t climb? One thing’s for sure; I’m setting my alarm early for this one. Grab your snacks, folks, because it’s bound to be a showdown for the ages!
So, sit tight, because Magda Linette is not just playing tennis; she’s rewriting the rulebook! A round of applause for our tennis queen, who’s teaching us all that ranking is just a number—a ridiculous number—at that! Now, let’s see if she can knock out Gauff and snag that seven million. Fingers crossed, and prayer beads at the ready!
