The energy transition requires a strong expansion of storage capacities in Austria. How is this progressing in households and companies? The office of State Minister for Economic Affairs Markus Achleitner stated in response to a request: electricity storage systems do not require notification or approval and are therefore not recorded statistically. What does exist, however, are the federal government’s funding figures. According to Achleitner’s office, the most recent available figures are from 2022. 4,320 photovoltaic storage systems with a capacity of 63,916 kWh were funded in Upper Austria that year. That was first place ahead of Styria and Lower Austria.
Research is also being carried out. The state is currently funding electricity storage projects with a total of 5.22 million euros; total project volume: 34.87 million euros.
