This is how long your Green Card will take after taking your fingerprints

Obtaining your Green Card is one of the most important and anticipated moments for you in the United States. The process is very well explained on the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website. However, there are still questions about the waiting times during each stage of the process.

Without a doubt, one of the most common complaints is the waiting time to receive the Green Card or Permanent Residence in the country. On the subject, USCIS has explained the three periods that can cause a delay in the delivery of said document after the fingerprints are taken.

-When applicants entered the United States using an immigrant visa and paid the immigrant visa fee before entering. The waiting period is up to 90 days from the date of entry.

-If the applicant entered the United States using his or her immigrant visa but paid the immigrant visa fee after entering. The deadline may take up to ninety days from the date on which he or she made his or her payment.

-If you entered the United States using your immigrant visa, but have not paid the corresponding fee, you are required to pay online before your Permanent Resident Card can be processed.

Three more months of waiting

The process may take an additional 90 days. According to USIS, there are cases outside the normal timeframe when the applicant is beyond the deadline to complete 93% of the adjudicated cases. The same happens if the applicant is after 130% of the cycle time.

In that case, the applicant must enter the receipt date found on his or her notice in the text box. He or she will then be given an estimated date to contact USCIS.

Similarly, USCIS warns applicants that there are many reasons why the processing of a case may be delayed.

These include: workload, the time it takes for a requester to respond to a request for additional information, operational changes, or some case-specific factors.
