The Duke of Sussex, 39, has decided to make the US his permanent residence, four years following he left London with his wife, Meghan Markle.
Now, well-known photographer Arthur Edwards, who has been photographing the royal family since 1977, has weighed in on Harry’s new homeland, saying the decision to turn his back on the UK has left the family reeling.
“I’m very sad regarding it. But it seems inevitable, his two children are American, his wife is American, he lives there, but it’s a sad situation,” he continued.
In 2020, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, 42, moved to the US, where they now live with their children Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, in Montecito, California, in a move which was called ‘Megxit’.
The couple were then kicked out of their UK home, Frogmore Cottage – which was given to them by the late Queen following their 2018 wedding.
They eventually vacated it in June 2023, which left them without an official residence in the UK.
Now, when they visit the UK, they have nowhere to stay and have to stay with friends or in a hotel – which Harry chose to do during his trip to London in February.
In addition, Sussex residents have lost the option of taxpayer-funded UK personal insurance, meaning they will now have to pay out of pocket for their own insurance when traveling across the lake.
And during an interview on “Good Morning America” in February, Harry said he loved life in California so much that he considered becoming an official US citizen.
