KBS’s exclusive filmed video was used as it is by other media companies, saying that it was a source of ‘reader-provided’ and ‘online community’.
At around 1:30 am on the 6th, KBS announced ‘Busan Marine City’s Dangerous Moment… A report titled ‘Reckless Shooting in a Typhoon’ reported, “Yesterday in Marine City, Haeundae-gu, Busan, a dangerous moment when a tsunami struck a roadside passerby was captured in a KBS coverage video.” In the video, a person who appears to be a YouTuber is vividly swept away by a tsunami.
However, other media companies used KBS videos without permission. The Hankook Ilbo, published around 5 am on the 6th, was swept away by the waves of ‘Hin Nam-no Live Broadcasting YouTuber… The Ulsan Metropolitan City reported that the KBS video was ‘provided by readers’ in the article ‘One missing person’. The JoongAng Ilbo also broadcasts a typhoon live at the breakwater, which was released around 6 am on the 6th… A YouTuber who was swept away by a wave and flew 10m[영상]’ The article stated that the source of the video was ‘provided by the reader’.
SBS on the 6th at 10:40 am ‘[영상] Hin Nam-no’s live-streaming YouTuber flew 10m in a wave the size of a house’, specifying the source of the video as an ‘online community’. The article has now been deleted. Channel A used it as a video material in the typhoon Hinnamno warning on the morning of the same day, and also described the source as an ‘online community’. In addition, many media outlets reported on ‘online community’ or ‘youtube screen capture’.
This incident seems to be the result of someone cutting and editing the KBS logo and uploading it to YouTube or an online community following a KBS reporter filmed it overnight, and other media companies took it as it is without confirmation. An official from the KBS Press Headquarters said, “I am ashamed of the reality of our media, which is used haphazardly without properly checking the source or authenticity of this when it goes up in the community.”
