During the past hours, social media has been buzzing with a video clip that has spread widely, showing citizens picking up two thousand pounds of money scattered on the southern highway in The Syrian capital, Damascus.
The video shows people running in the streets to pick up money scattered between cars and pedestrians, while others stop driving, park their vehicles and step out of them to get money.
While the source of that money is not yet known, the “Voice of the Capital” network suggested that it belonged to two people who had a disagreement in a car, and one of them threw a “bundle” of money into the street.
He also hears from the video the voice of someone passing by in his car from an elderly person who runs to collect papers, and he says to him in the Syrian dialect: “Those are 2000 Hajj,” and he meant them to ask for a paper in the denomination of 2000 Syrian pounds.
difficult economic situation
It is noteworthy that Syria has been suffering for several years from several crises, including fuel, energy and bread, in addition to the collapse of the lira, which has no catastrophic effects on all aspects of life in it, making it a difficult life.
Statistics and reports indicate that the loss of the Syrian economy during the war years amounted to more than 442 billion dollars (according to ESCWA), stressing that a large part of it was a share of the gross domestic product, as the latter lost approximately 54% of the level it was in 2010 .
Meanwhile, more than 90% of Syrian families depend on expatriate funds, which the regime has become to a large extent dependent on amid the scarcity of foreign exchange in the country.
According to the information, the current situation does not bode well at all, especially that the Syrian pound is facing more pressures.
