“Most of the deaths are of innocent people in prisons such as Izalco, Mariona, Zacate and the jails… In El Salvador there are short-term forced disappearances and there are also torture and violent deaths in prisons.” Escobar indicated
In this regard, Escobar questioned the judicial proceedings against leaders of criminal structures, who have been captured abroad and extradited to El Salvador, also recalling that they were captured by the FBI and not due to the actions of the country’s police forces. In the case of the ex-combatants who were arrested on May 31, Escobar said that they are being unfairly prosecuted, and that the problem in this case has also been a complaint about the loss of $48 million from the war veterans institute.
“There are 11 members of the national alliance El Salvador in peace who are being unjustly prosecuted and who have been denied house arrest. The problem with the members of the alliance is that they have reported the loss of 48 million dollars from the war veterans institute.” Escobar said.
