A relationship between added salt and death

Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine conducted a study which made it possible to discover something startling. The results have shown that adding salt to dishes causes a risk of premature death.

The researchers experimented for nearly 9 years before coming to this conclusion. They conducted a study on more than 500,000 Britons and did extensive research. This research has made it possible to prove that those who are in the habit of adding salt to their plate have 28% increased risk to die prematurely.

An incredibly high figure that might be puzzling. Indeed, one might wonder how the fact ofadd salt to food would affect longevity. In fact, it has to do with sodium intake. As Dr. Lu Qi explained:

“Even a modest reduction in sodium intake, by adding less or no salt to foods at the table, is likely to result in substantial health benefits”

A habit to avoid

Thus, people who are not used to to add salt to their dish are likely to live longer than those who do. The figures collected during the research also show that men over 50 who have this mania would lose 2.28 years of life expectancy. Women, they wouldn’t lose only 1.5 years.

To improve health, it is therefore preferable to change this habit. Especially since in France, the overconsumption of salt is a major problem. Some consuming 2 to 3 times more than the recommended dose of salt per day.

Note that there is a big difference between adding salt to a dish and seasoning during cooking. If the first is bad for health, the other presents less risk. The reason is that the salt is better distributed if added to food during cooking. While on the plate, it almost does not mix, but only remains on the surface of the food.

Palm oil, bad for health

Present in many products, palm oil has a bad reputation. Nutritionists say it is bad for your health. The reason ? It contains a significant amount of fatty acids. These fatty acids found in oil are the same as those found in meat. They promote bad cholesterol. Therefore, consuming them in large quantities toxic for health.
