She is one of the first Arab screen stars and the first Cinderella. Her real name is Kamila Muhammad Kamel. She was born on March 23, 1916. She was distinguished by her skill in embodying the role of a mother. She lost her sight during the filming of her last films, and chose the name Aqila Ratib instead of her real name.
Her father is the first Egyptian to work as a translator in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because he has mastered 7 foreign languages. At the age of five, she caused a battle between the Egyptians and the English following the occupation forces tried in 1921 to arrest her father. A soldier hit her on the head, so she fainted. The people revolted, and 5 martyrs were killed in the clash.
When she reached the age of 14, her father refused her work in art and beat her, so she moved to her aunt’s house and her father interrupted her, and from here she chose her artistic name.
In her last movie, “The Unlucky”, in 1987, and before filming ended, she was blinded, so she insisted on completing her scenes, and then moved away from art until her death on February 22, 1992.
