this episode from “Gentlemen of Fortune” was not invented in the USSR

This doesn’t make the episode any less funny.

“Gentlemen of Fortune” is an incredibly funny film. Until now, viewers are tearing their stomachs over the adventures of Khmyr, Kosoy, Associate Professor (who is actually Troshkin) and Vasily Alibabaevich and do not even realize what is behind some scenes.

Director Alexander Sery hid several Easter eggs in the film, which not everyone paid attention to. Maybe because they didn’t follow foreign prime ministers. Maybe because they mightn’t even imagine that Soviet filmmaking might borrow anything from the West. But the fact remains that one of the funniest scenes in Gentlemen of Fortune is actually stolen.

Remember the moment when the escaped jailers dress up as women and stumble (otherwise it’s hard to say) along the street following a pretty girl? Kosoy also asked her name, following which a brilliant phrase followed: “What a fool”. So, there was a very similar episode in the film “Some Like It Hot.” When watching this moment, there is no doubt what became the source of inspiration for Gray. The same men in disguise, the same rather strange (considering the circumstances) attempt at acquaintance… Moreover, it is known that the film with Marilyn Monroe was actively shown in the USSR. So, perhaps not everyone saw it, but many who were interested in cinema saw it.
