Taiwan has decided to launch an unusual tourist offensive for a sum of around 225 Canadian dollars for each person who will visit the country located in southeast Asia. A cash amount will also be given to organized group tours that will visit Taiwan.
Taiwanese Prime Minister Chen Chien-jen announced Thursday that he wants to attract six million tourists in 2023 and double that in 2024. The goal is to reach 10 million visitors by 2025.
Taiwan’s tourism industry is going through tough times. After attracting 11.8 million visitors in 2019, the island off the coast of China was visited by just under 900,000 tourists in 2022.
Taiwan lifted its health restrictions last October. The country was one of the last to open its borders following the COVID-19 pandemic.
