I will not go into the historical details, the dust of the drawn maps, and the orientalists’ designations regarding the Arabian Gulf or elsewhere, as such arguments have another place. What really matters to me is the timing used by Iran to raise a topic that has been dead for years, and each of Iran, the Gulf states, and Iraq use the name that suits them around the Gulf, whether from the stomachs of history or from the evocations of the present, and this difference did not lead to wars or clashes!
Since 24 Arab Gulf Championships, Iran has not protested once morest the naming, as it is not one of the Arab Gulf countries, and therefore we have the right to call it the Arab Graduate Championship.
The strangest thing is that the protest came from the Iranian parliament, according to Fars Agency, which headlined its news as follows: “Iranian parliamentarians condemn Muqtada al-Sadr’s recent statements.” And all that the man did in his tweet was that he congratulated the launch and success of the Arab Gulf Championship. Was he supposed to even take permission from them? Say what they want!! The Arabian Gulf was mentioned in the opening speech delivered by the Prime Minister, Mr. Al-Sudani, and the representative, “Wali Allah Bayati,” considered that the mention of the word “Arabian Gulf” in the words of Al-Sadr and Al-Sudani was “a strange procedure.” While the Iranian Football Association sent FIFA a note of protest once morest naming the Arabian Gulf, although FIFA The championship is not officially recognized and does not mean anything from the naming order!
However, the insolence of the representative who took on behalf of God and the Iraqi people referred to “the recent statements made by Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq and the prime minister of this country.” This is how he came with the text “this country” by which he means Iraq! While he declared his guardianship over the Iraqis by saying, “The Iraqi people are not satisfied with the use of such terms.” I do not know where he came from with this funny and strange substitution, forfeiting the opinion of the Iraqi people, who revealed from Basra their true identity, which may have disturbed the Iranian leaders or some of them who did not express an opinion on The Iranian Parliament bypassed leaders such as Mr. Al-Sadr, whom Parliament demanded to apologize to Iran, and this apology includes Mr. Al-Sudani, as stated in the text of the Fars news agency, “The Iranian parliamentarian called on these two people to apologize to please the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.”
Notice “this country” and “these two people.” What disrespect and disrespectful language this representative is marketing, as if they are nothing but political and religious personalities who have their respected positions and represent large segments of the Iraqi people.
If we are not waiting for an apology from the Iranian Parliament or the government, then the Iraqi people have the right to wait for a position from the Iraqi government to restore honor to Messrs. Al-Sadr and Al-Sudani. Most likely, our wait will be long until we read a new title for Samuel Beckett’s play, whose events revolve around two men waiting for a person called “Godeau.” “It never arrives!!
