A lot has happened on Twitter lately. Those following are already familiar with Elon Musk’s hostile takeover bid and Twitter’s “poison pill” response to it. Many also know how Musk recently posted a tweet asking users if they needed an “edit” button. That was just before he was announced by CEO Parag Agarwal as a board member of Twitter, which later didn’t end well and with a $
ended. Billion takeover offer. But as soon as Musk was announced as a board member, Twitter also confirmed in a tweet that they were indeed working on an “edit” button function. But now, for the first time ever, we have a look at the feature on the site.
The Edit Tweet feature was discovered by a developer
This edit button was discovered by developer Alessandro Paluzzi on the web interface. The developer even shared screenshots of the feature. In the image, the feature appears as “Edit Tweet” and is placed in the three-dot menu following a user posts the tweet. This can be found under the option to view tweet analytics. Once the user clicks the “Edit Tweet” button, he/she will be returned to the compose window from where he/she can edit the particular tweet. This time, however, the blue “Tweet” button will change to “Update”.

While Paluzzi shared the screenshots with the feature, another user named Nima Owji (@nima_owji) shared a short video in the form of a GIF showing it in action. He adds that at this point it’s not possible to change the audience of the tweet while editing.

Although the feature is being spotted for the first time on the microblogging platform, there is still no confirmation as to when it will go live to all users and when it will be available for Android and iOS apps.
Why is the Edit Tweet feature required
An edit button on Twitter was the most anticipated feature for social media users. Twitter knows it and has joked regarding it several times in the past. The popularity of the feature was highlighted once more by Musk’s poll, which asked whether users wanted the feature or not. As expected, 73.6% of users voted yes. The feature is liked by many as users make typos and their only option is to delete it or add an additional tweet as a “quote retweet” or thread to post the correct version. Some didn’t want to delete the tweet because deleting it would also mean losing all interactions with it.
However, at the time of the announcement, it was confirmed that this feature would be available exclusively to Twitter Blue users. The company also shared a short GIF showing the feature, but in the app rather than the web interface.
