Duties of a landscape maintenance worker
Control weeds.
Sterilize the soil.
Mix and apply chemicals for weed and insect control.
Operate and maintain various light equipment and perform general labor duties associated with maintaining the State Highway System.
Availability to work overtime, irregular shifts/alternative work schedules, night shifts, holidays and weekends.
Availability to work varied temporary and/or intermittent work shifts.
Landscape maintenance worker profile
Ability to operate specific vehicles that require a driver’s license Class C, such as trucks, automobiles, road maintenance, construction or landscaping equipment; and performing other related work.
One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Service Assistant (Maintenance) or one year of experience in the maintenance of orchards, vineyards, truck crops, nurseries, or landscape plantings.
Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate, Landscape Maintenance or Right-of-Way Pest Control Category, issued by the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal-EPA) or three years of experience planting and caring for shrubs, trees, flowers, and ground cover, at least one year of which must have been in public parks, large private estates, institutions, commercial nursery landscaping, or on highway landscape maintenance work.
Studies equivalent to completion of 12th grade.
Own a Class A commercial driver’s license valid and unrestricted with specifications P (passengers/bus) and H (hazardous materials).
Pass a drug test.
