The Apple Watch Series 10 would benefit from a new, more energy-efficient OLED screen. This feature would allow Apple’s new connected device to offer a little more generous autonomy than in the past… without compromising display quality.

Apple might slightly change the screen of its Apple Watch Series 10… to improve its autonomy. Without switching to a MicroLED panel (so far expected in vain on the Apple Watch Ultra), the next connected watch from the Cupertino giant would indeed adopt a new OLED screen technology with the main particularity of offering better efficiency energy.
In this case, we learn from The Elec that Apple would be betting at the start of the school year on a Watch Series 10 equipped with a new OLED panel combining TFT (“Thin-film transistor”) and LTPO (based on low temperature polycrystalline oxide) technologies. However, this screen would not completely ignore the LTPS technology used previously. The latter would, however, be limited to the management of non-visible parts of the screen.
A change that might eventually extend to the iPhone
Relatively complex, this new technology might become essential on the market in the future. It is also estimated that it will quickly extend to all iPhones. The LTPO TFT OLED is also expected in parallel on the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, and might integrate all of the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro next year, so as to further improve their autonomy.
In any case, it would be a logical continuation, Apple having often “launched” new display technologies on its Apple Watches before extending them to more products subsequently. This was for example the case for the “classic” OLED LTPO technology introduced first on the Apple Watch, then on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 to offer “Always on” mode.
Finally, note that if The Elec sometimes makes mistakes in its predictions regarding Apple products, the Taiwanese media is often right regarding the integration of new technologies into them… notably thanks to its careful observation of the supply chain. The integration of this new LTPO TFT OLED technology into the Apple Watch Series 10 therefore has a good chance of being true.
