At the Las Vegas Tech Show (CES), the latest iX SUV appeared on the BMW stand, alternating its body color between black and white, as if by magic! This was made possible by the application of a digital film everywhere on its bodywork: it contains a multitude of balls which react and move in contact with an electric current. A technology that is found in particular on current digital e-readers, called “e-Ink”, and which allows text to be displayed while consuming a minimum of energy. And the result is simply stunning!
Not just aesthetic
Beyond the purely aesthetic aspect, this innovation should eventually make it possible to display all types of content on vehicles, such as text, advertisements or QR codes for example. From a more practical point of view, the vehicle equipped with such a film should be able to automatically change color depending on the weather, to guarantee an ideal operating temperature for its engine, for example.
