This Apple Watch prototype is 10 years old; see images

Back in 2020, we showed images of a collection of Apple Watch prototypeswhich revealed a little regarding how Maçã arrived at the final design of the first model, launched in 2015.

More recently, the developer and collector Giulio Zompetti (which had released images of these prototypes) made available to the 9to5Mac photos of another pre-production model — and probably one of the oldest, dating back to 2013which reveals even more details.

As you can see in the images, the Digital Crown This Apple Watch prototype has a slightly different shape; Furthermore, it is running the SwitchBoard — boot software that Apple uses internally to test hardware features.

With three heart rate sensors aligned horizontally, the prototype also has generic laser markings instead of the final ones with the model number.

A curious difference concerns the charger, which does not work with any other Apple Watch model (despite being similar to the current accessory), according to Zompetti.

At least visually, the prototype has a generally very similar shape to the original Apple Watch — and is not drastically different from even the most recent models (except for the Apple Watch Ultra).

Perhaps this indicates that it’s time for the Apple Watch to undergo a redesign — and there are rumors to that effect, which suggest that the next line will have some significant changes.
