Colombian airline Avianca announced that it will not board passengers with flight authorization obtained through humanitarian parole.
They explained that passengers with only an Advanced Travel Authorization (ATA) document will not be allowed to board their flights.
“We inform you that due to new provisions with immediate effect issued by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in accordance with its official communication dated August 3, 2024, boarding will not be permitted for passengers traveling to the United States with an Advanced Travel Authorization (ATA) document,” reads part of the airline’s official statement.
According to AVIANCA, this measure is in response to the new provisions of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and “seeks to strengthen immigration controls.
However, this restriction does not apply to Ukrainian citizens or those who hold a US visa, residency or citizenship.”
Despite the confusion, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has clarified that beneficiaries with an Advance Travel Authorization (ATA) approved before the suspension can travel to the United States without incident.
