Two Indonesian wall climbers Rajiah Salsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi will start competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics this afternoon. They will appear in the speed qualifying round.

Based on data from the official website of the Paris Olympics, in the women’s speed category, both the world record and the Olympic record are held by Polish athlete Aleksandra Miroslaw with a time of 6.24 seconds (world record) and 6.84 seconds which she recorded at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

This year, Aleksandra will also appear with Rajiah Salsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, as well as 11 other athletes.

In this category, the chances of Indonesian athletes are quite large to qualify for the elimination round, and maybe even win a medal if they manage to advance to the final. So far, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi’s best time is 6.49 seconds which she recorded at the World Championships in Bern, Switzerland last year. Meanwhile, Rajiah Salsabillah’s best time is 7.72 seconds which she recorded at the same championship.

At the IFSC world championship in Jakarta in May last year, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi won a silver medal, while the gold medal was won by Aleksandra, and the bronze was won by another Polish athlete, Aleksandra Kalucka.

Last Saturday (3/8), the Indonesian rock climbing team consisting of Veddriq Leonardo and Rahmad Adi Mulyono for the men’s category and Rajiah Salsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in the women’s category, were given the opportunity to try out the wall that would be used for the competition at Le Bourget Climbing Venue, in Paris.
